Connecting the work
to the resume
Technical work can be hard to describe in a few lines. A list of programming languages rarely explains the problem you solved, the decisions you made, or your part in a project.
My development background gives me useful context for those details. On ResumeOtter, my focus is helping you explain projects, skills, and responsibilities in language that makes your contribution clear. That matters whether you're describing your first application or years of professional experience.
I bring that same emphasis on relevance and evidence to the site's broader resume guidance. Each profession has its own expectations, so the examples are starting points to adapt to your background and the job you're applying for.
My approach
A useful resume starts with useful detail.
Make the work understandable
Explain what you contributed, how you approached it, and what changed. A reader should be able to follow your work without knowing every tool you used.
Give claims something to stand on
Use real achievements, specific deliverables, and verified metrics when you have them. Show the scope of your work when a numerical result isn't available.
Keep the format out of the way
Use familiar headings, a clear reading order, and consistent formatting. Give relevant experience room to breathe and cut details that add little to your application.
Behind the examples
How the content
is made
I develop ResumeOtter's resume templates and the tools used to create its examples. The writing guidance draws on established resume principles, including relevance, specific contributions, and readable formatting. Resources used to inform the guidance include Harvard career services and CareerOneStop's resume guide.
ResumeOtter uses AI to help draft role-specific examples and advice. The resumes are fictional teaching examples: their names, employers, and achievements illustrate how to present information. They aren't accounts of real candidates or evidence of hiring outcomes.
Use the examples to shape your own writing, then replace every detail with your actual experience. The aim is a resume that represents your work accurately and speaks to the role you want.
